Hi-de-Hi Campers! (part deux)

Well, that was eventful.

Camping with 4 kids is never the easiest and most relaxing of breaks, but they’re always fun, and that’s how we roll as a family.

But it really couldn’t have started off any worse.

It was like a scene out of National Lampoon’s Camping Vacation.

I was half expecting Chevy Chase to appear from around the corner.

I’m going to run you through the catalogue of catastrophes that happened whilst we were away.

First up, Mat’s phone broke on the way there.

Then upon arrival, we had literally been on the campsite for 5 mins, Jude jumped out of the car in the rain, slipped on the mud. Covered head to toe.

It was absolutely hammering it down when we arrived, so we got drenched putting the tent up.

Then!!!

We went to move the car and it was stuck.

The Venga bus does NOT like mud.

All this within the first hour of our weekend break away, great hey?

But it gets worse!!!!

Isobelle had an injured toe, so we couldn’t go anywhere on Monday.

Now you couldn’t write this honestly.

To top it all off, me and Mat were packing the tent away and I suddenly had a thought.

Now bear in mind our tent is 8m x 5m and we had just taken it down, removed all the poles, jumped on it, rolled on it to try and get it down to a suitable size so that we can dump it in the back of the car.

Ooops, where are Mat’s glasses and wallet?

Yep, they were only in the inside pocket of the tent.

Doh, doh, doh!

So yep, we had to unravel it all, in the mud and wet to try and get inside.

All the time thinking they were going to be shattered to pieces.

But amazingly when we got to them they weren’t!

They were all in one piece, not a scratch, phew!

I’m think that’s all of the challenges we encountered, but I’m sure Mat will fill you in on any other shenanigans and the good stuff (there was some, honest) next week.

It was great to get away, great to spend some quality time with Mat and the kids before they went back to school this week.

Don’t even get me started on that.

I’ve been waiting ages for the kids to go back to school so I can get back to work full time to help grow our business.

But I’ll be honest, I was a little sad.

Isobelle started high school which has just tipped me over the edge this week.

So it’s a good job we have something to celebrate this weekend.

It’s our anniversary on Saturday, 11 years since we’ve been married and I’m still awaiting my medal 🙂

We are going to have a child free meal along with a few beverages for the first time in over 6 months and, YAY!!
